Fool Me Once, Fool Me Twice, Fool Me Thrice             Understanding how the natural world works has advanced the human condition. These advancements have brought many diseases to their knees. For example, smallpox, a virus with a mortality rate near 30%, has inflicted pain on those who knew it since the 6 th century (WHO). People where so afraid to die from smallpox, that in the 1700’s people lined up and inhale scabs from infected persons. This process was called variolation and caused a less virulent infection with a lower mortality rate of 1%, while creating immunity to smallpox (CDC). Interestingly enough, people would line up with their children to take a guaranteed 1:100 gamble of death to avoid the 30% mortality rate of smallpox. Unchanging Power

A look at the ancient Greek kings Achilles and Menelaus compared to the Book of Mormon kings Noah and Mosiah allow for a comparison between what has stayed the same and changed for kings during a 1,500-year gap. In fact, many aspects of being a king have not changed much over the past couple millennia. The lives of these kings highlight that power maintenance and organization has largely stayed the same, meanwhile the perception of what makes a successful king has changed dramatically. A common trouble of a king is maintaining power. Power is vital for a king because it is a defining aspect of who they are. While there are many ways to approach how to maintain power, repeatedly kings of old would surround themselves with strong allies. Mosiah expounded, “Ye cannot dethrone an iniquitous king save it be through much contention, and the shedding of much blood”. Servant of Wife At 22 years old I was married in the Salt Lake temple to my best friend. Since then, the last two and a half years have been incredible. My wife is an artist and a cosmetologist. Luckily for me, I will always have perfect hair. I was only halfway joking when I titled this section servant of wife. I am very grateful for my wife because she knows how to humble me. We serve each other to strengthen our marriage and make every day meaningful. I am lucky to be able to serve a woman as righteous, kind, and loving as she is. Follower of Christ I desire to live my life patterned after Jesus Christ. I see him as a perfect example of how to be happy in this life. He is loving, forgiving, compassionate, kind, thoughtful of the forgotten, and always extends a hand to those in need.
